Saints & Martyrs: Genesis is available for purchase! 😀 

What inspired this story? It was released way quicker than Tempest…

There are some notable differences between Saints & Martyrs and Eye of the Storm. For starters, S&M is one of the first stories I ever wrote. If you’ve ever played the phone game Episode, it’s the only completed story I have listed. (Yes, I used that game to self-promote eons ago. And yes, my profile is probably still up.)

The story went through significant changes and rewrites over the last few years. I’ve always loved it, but chose to focus on Eye of the Storm because it’s such a larger world. I love the characters of Saints & Martyrs just as much as Eye of the Storm; the major difference between the two worlds is that Eye of the Storm is set in a world I created, whereas Saints & Martyrs is low fantasy, set in our world with fantasy elements added.

Okay, really - what inspired it?

I have always loved the idea of forbidden love and deep connections doomed by the narrative. Blame my parents for instilling me with an affection for tragic romances.

This isn’t to say that Saints & Martyrs has an unhappy ending; forbidden trysts were simply a basis for creating this story. Throw in the infatuation I had with fallen angel stories in my youth, and the early beginnings of Lyric’s story start to come together.

A question I started with, though, was what does love look like with an angel who hasn’t fallen? What if he were a sweet person forced to act against his own wishes instead of a man hiding a dark backstory?

As for Lyric, our protagonist, I wanted her to be both relatable and deeply human. Humans are flawed, so while being funny and relatable, she is also highly emotional and doesn’t always make sound decisions.
